My favorite looks from Ralph Lauren's SS 2027 Collection

My alarm goes off at 4:10 p.m. I'm watching TV and change the channel from 'Friends' on HBO to YouTube. I quickly type in 'Ralph Lauren' into the search bar. I sit on my couch, cross legged, dressed in my "finest" (...black nike sweatpants and an old 'Steelers' sweatshirt - I work remote, don't judge me) and prepare to view the new Spring/Summer 2027 collection while continuing my corporate tasks on my laptop.

The moment the music started, I was entranced.

Ralph Lauren is one of those brands that rarely, IF EVER, disappoints me. My values align very tightly with what the brand stands for. I too, prefer timelessness over trends. I also crave authenticity especially in a world that seems so focused on how to properly brand themselves on social media that almost every move begins to feel calculated and lackluster. Ralph Lauren himself also talks extensively about how he is a world builder and isn't just focused on the clothes but the whole environment, the character of the people who would wear them, almost like making a movie. Sometimes he even pulls inspiration from movies/movie characters (i.e his Fall 2017 Women's collection that had a very strong nod to Mr.007). I relate to his vision because I also love watching movies and television shows to find my own fashion muses.

This new world he revealed on Thursday was a breath of fresh air to me. It's still true to the brand while being light and airy, much like Spring itself. The colors, textures and patterns he used had me feeling a way I hadn't felt since discovering Tom Ford's Gucci Fall/Winter 1995 collection on YouTube in high school.

What this collection reminded me of:

The Great Gatsby - 1974, starring Robert Redford

Howl's Moving Castle - 2004

Grace Kelly's 1955 'To Catch a Thief' Blue Chiffon Dress made by Edith Head

Aquamarine - 2006

A Room with a View - 1985, starring Helena Bonham Carter and Maggie Smith

Pride and Prejudice - 2005, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen

I'll be rewatching this everyday until the collection comes out and I can purchase that gold tunic dress - until then, have a lovely NYFW everyone! 😊
